Filmed on 22 March 1895, it is often referred to as the first real motion picture ever made, although Louis Le Prince's 1888 Roundhay Garden Scene pre-dated it by seven years. Three separate versions of this film exist, which differ from one another in numerous ways. The first version features a carriage drawn by one horse, while in the second version the carriage is drawn by two horses, and there is no carriage at all in the third version. The clothing style is also different between the three versions, demonstrating the different seasons in which each was filmed. This film was made in the 35 mm format with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and at a speed of 16 frames per second. At that rate, the 17 meters of film length provided a duration of 46 seconds, holding a total of 800 frames.

The Boxing Kangaroo is an 1896 British short black-and-white silent documentary film, produced and directed by Birt Acres for exhibition on Robert W. Paul’s peep show Kinetoscopes, featuring a young boy boxing with a kangaroo. The film was considered lost until footage from an 1896 Fairground Programme, originally shown in a portable booth at Hull Fair by Midlands photographer George Williams, donated to the National Fairground Archive was identified as being from this film.

Siamo a Catana nel III secolo a.C. L'eruzione dell'Etna provoca la distruzione della città. La piccola Cabiria, figlia di Batto, trova scampo sulla spiaggia, ma pirati fenici le catturano e le portano a Cartagine. Cabiria, che sta per essere sacrificata al dio Moloch, è salvata da Fulvio Axilla e dallo schiavo Maciste. Denunciati da Bodastoret, essi riescono però a fuggire, e Maciste, prima di essere preso, consegna Cabiria a Sofonisba, figlia di Asdrubale. La guerra fra Roma e Cartagine si inasprisce: Annibale varca le Alpi, Asdrubale stringe alleanza con Massinissa. Passano gli anni, Fulvio ritorna quindi a Cartagine, riesce a liberare Maciste e fugge dalla città. Intanto Cabiria è riconsegnata da Sofonisba a Khartalo, ma ancora una volta è salvata da Maciste. Catturata di nuovo, è data per morta; ma Sofonisba confessa a Fulvio e a Maciste che la fanciulla è viva. Infine i tre si imbarcano per l'Italia; Cabiria e Fulvio si abbracciano, avendo scoperto di essere innamorati.

The earliest surviving celluloid film, and believed to be the second moving picture ever created, was shot by Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince using the LPCCP Type-1 MkII single-lens camera. It was taken in the garden of Oakwood Grange, the Whitley family house in Roundhay, Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire (UK), possibly on 14 October 1888. The film shows Adolphe Le Prince (Le Prince's son), Mrs. Sarah Whitley (Le Prince's mother-in-law), Joseph Whitley, and Miss Harriet Hartley walking around in circles, laughing to themselves, and staying within the area framed by the camera. The Roundhay Garden Scene was recorded at 12 frames per second and runs for 2.11 seconds.
